Clifford Wall ’22

Physics professor

As head of the North Central College physics department, Clifford Wall, Ph.D., nurtured a generation of future scientists, including nine who went on to obtain doctorates in physics and one Fellow of the National Academy of Sciences. In 1954, the American Physical Association and the American Association of Physics Teachers awarded him the Oersted Medal for his outstanding contribution as a teacher of physics. Some of the students he trained for graduate work (J. Guy Woodward ’36, Carl Gamertsfelder ’35) appear in these Legacy of Science pages.

In 1965, Wall received the Outstanding Alumni Award from North Central College. He was named Honorary Trustee at North Central in 1971.
