In 2009 Emily Albright earned a Goldwater Scholarship, the nation’s highest undergraduate award for achievement in the natural sciences. The prestigious award recognized her research with two of her North Central biology professors: Stephen Johnston (on yeast cell genetics and cellular growth associated with diseases such as Down syndrome, Alzheimer's and cancer) and Jonathan Visick (on protein repair in bacteria and its relationship to aging). Upon graduating, Albright earned a three-year National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship and is now a Graduate Research Fellow at the University of Wisconsin–Madison.
