Endowed Chairs

Stephen D. Johnston Ph.D., Roger and Nadeane Hruby Professor in the Liberal Arts and Sciences

Our professors are among the most dedicated and talented teacher-scholars in the nation.

Endowed chairs—also known as faculty chairs—are crucial to attracting and retaining these remarkable mentors. As permanently funded titles, professorships support the teaching, research and service of outstanding faculty members by funding a portion of their compensation or their department’s programming. Generous alumni, friends and other benefactors of the College fund these chairs.

Current chair-holding professors span a variety of disciplines throughout the arts and sciences, from religion and history to mathematics and biology. (See list at right.) Since 1992, the College has established 13 endowed chairs. The Brilliant Future Campaign outlines plans to add ten more, further strengthening our tradition of great teaching and academic excellence.

Opportunities to fund an endowed chair begin at $1.5 million.
