Holly Humphrey ’79

Biology major

After graduating with honors from The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in 1983, Holly Humphrey, M.D., was named the school’s chief resident responsible for the formal and informal education of 85 internal medicine residents. Now, as the Ralph W. Gerard Professor in Medicine and Dean for Medical Education at The University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine, she oversees the education of 400 medical students and all graduate programs. She has launched numerous initiatives and has been instrumental in developing new pipeline programs focused on preparing under-represented minority students for careers in medicine.

Humphrey received the North Central Alumni Recognition Award in 1987, was elected to the North Central Board of Trustees in 2003 and in 2009 received the Outstanding Alumni Award.
